The paintings before you are creations from my mind’s eye. They are about how nature feels and the interplay of color and light and movement or the absence thereof. Even though these paintings are abstractions rather than specific places, I feel that letting nature move me is very much the first step in my process.
At home, in the studio, I put down a neutral ground and sky with oil paints on canvas. Once that is dry: I fill in the painting with layers of oil paint, thinned to translucency (and allowed to dry) between coats of varish, some dusted with powdered pigments. Suspending the paints and colors between varnish coats creates depth below a calm surface as the paintings develop over the weeks I spend on them.
